About Dr. Mallen and His Practice
John K. Mallen, M.D., is a plastic and reconstructive surgeon who specializes in cosmetic surgery. He has had extensive training in surgery of the face, breast, and abdomen, as well as body contouring. Dr. Mallen is highly skilled in performing facial and eyelid surgery as well as breast augmentation, tummy tuck, and liposuction/body contouring procedures. He has a particular interest in the treatment of spider veins through the use of sclerotherapy.
Dr. Mallen and his staff also specialize in nonsurgical skin rejuvenation, offering a variety of facial peels and microdermabrasion. These lunch hour treatments over the years have been performed by trained skin care specialists, including aestheticians and registered nurses.
Dr. Mallen uses Botox and/or filler treatments such as Juvederm, Restylane and Obagi Magiq as an adjunct to improve facial wrinkles and lines as a nonsurgical procedure.
Dr. Mallen is a graduate of Tufts Medical School in Boston. Following residencies in plastic and reconstructive surgery at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Toledo and general surgery at St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center in Boston, he completed a fellowship devoted to cosmetic surgery. He has been a member of the faculty at Tufts Medical School and is a medical staff member at several hospitals.
Dr. Mallen and his staff often hold informational seminars on a variety of topics, including skin cancer, plastic surgery, cosmetic surgery, nonsurgical skin rejuvenation, and more. They have been asked to speak to various civic groups, businesses, and organizations.
Dr. Mallen stays abreast of leading-edge surgical techniques and safety procedures through continuous medical education seminars.
Dr. Mallen has been a guest on medical TV broadcasts, including Health New Hampshire and Eye on Health, as well as on radio talk shows such as WCCM, Let’s Talk Medicine.

Ashley Swenson, Licensed Aesthetician and Electrologist
Ashley is a licensed aesthetician and electrologist with a passion for helping patients achieve healthy, glowing skin. She graduated from the Esthetics Institute of New England and has been practicing in the aesthetics field for three years, providing customized skincare treatments tailored to each patient’s individual goals.
Ashley is certified in a variety of advanced aesthetic services, including chemical peels, facial peels, professional facials, microdermabrasion, lash and brow lifting and tinting, and permanent hair removal through electrology. Her approach combines clinical knowledge with a gentle touch, and she is known for creating a comfortable and welcoming environment for every patient she treats.
Before entering the aesthetics industry, Ashley spent 15 years as an educator in the Lawrence Public School system, where she developed strong skills in communication, care, and individualized guidance—qualities she now brings to every skincare consultation and treatment.
Known for her warmth, friendly demeanor, and attention to detail, Ashley enjoys guiding patients through their unique skincare journeys and making people feel confident and proud of the skin they’re in. She partners with the practice to deliver treatments that create meaningful, visible improvements in the skin.
Deborah M. Baker, RN, BS, MBA
Biography
“Debbie” has over 50 years of healthcare experience and has been a licensed registered nurse for over 40 years. She has worked with Dr. Mallen for 30 years as a per diem nurse, assisting him with both surgical and nonsurgical office procedures. Over the past several years, she has been involved in both cosmetic and nonsurgical procedures.
She recently developed a particular interest in both skin care and skin rejuvenation. She is certified in dermaplaning and has been professionally trained by the Vitality Institute to perform chemical peels for various skin types. She is formally trained in the Obagi Skin Care system, utilizing various protocols for skin rejuvenation and in the development of home care regimens that are tailored to each individual’s unique needs. Additionally, she has been trained in microdermabrasion.
Debbie’s past experience was in both free-standing and hospital-based surgical departments. Most recently, she was the Chief Nurse Executive for 18 years at Mount Auburn Hospital, a Harvard teaching hospital.
Debbie’s strong clinical experience brings a meticulous clinical eye to the world of aesthetics. Her background in nursing brings a delicate touch and close attention to detail to every patient she treats. Following her successful career in healthcare, she has developed her passion for enhancing the natural beauty of each individual and enjoys partnering with patients and clients to identify a personalized plan to make each individual feel like the best version of themselves. She prides herself on building trusting relationships and taking the time to educate patients and clients on their journey through rejuvenation.
