Breast Augmentation
“…In 1 ½ hours, I was done, feeling great, sitting up and talking to everyone. I was so happy. Now my concerns were…how long before I could exercise and how long before I could wear clothes braless…”
42-year-old Registered Nurse and mother of 2 children
Breast augmentation is intended for women aged 20 to 50 years old who seek a fuller, more feminine, but natural look. Breast augmentation is an effective way to compensate for a small amount of breast tissue, or for loss of upper pole fullness in breasts resulting from pregnancy or nursing. Breast augmentation is also effective in allowing patients to obtain a more proportional silhouette.
During the initial consultation, Dr. Mallen inquires about the patient’s personal expectations and describes how her desired results can be best achieved. Pre- and post-operative photos of other breast augmentation procedures are reviewed in detail. In a chaperoned exam, Dr. Mallen evaluates the patient’s genetic makeup, stature, as well as the proportionality of shoulders, rib/chest area, and hips. Based on the patient’s preferences and exam, Dr. Mallen explains how the sizing of breast implants can enhance the fullness of breast tissue and the projection of breasts.

Patient 1
This 31-year-old Registered Nurse desired breast augmentation. She had lost fullness after nursing her 2 children. She requested a modest enlargement which would be proportional to her 5’5″, 120 lb frame.

Patient 2
This 32-year-old, 5’5″, 102 lb female, who had a 32AA bra size, requested breast augmentation. She had difficulty fitting into all types of clothing, especially bathing suits, formal wear, and bras. She desired to have a breast size proportional to her frame. She felt her post-operative result was natural-looking and has gained tremendous self-confidence. Following surgery, she purchased seven new bathing suits.

Patient 3
This 42-year-old, 5’8″. 140 lb patient wished to have a significantly larger breast size, proportional plus relative to her frame. She lost fullness in the upper breast, leaving loose, saggy skin after she breastfed her 4 children. She felt her results were “life-altering,” completely natural-looking, and was especially pleased that her scar was barely noticeable.

Patient 4
This 35-year-old female, bra size 36A, who nursed her 2 children, desired implants to increase fullness in the upper breast. She did not wish to dramatically alter her 5’10, 135 lb frame. Smooth, high-profile, 380 CC implants were filled with 400 CC of saline and placed under the muscle. She was very pleased with her natural-looking result and commented that she did not feel that her result looked ‘surgical.’

Patient 5
This 29-year-old mother of 3, bra size 34B, desired breast augmentation. She wished to have a result that was larger than proportional to the rest of her body. 350 CC round smooth implants, filled to 400 CC, were placed below the muscle. Her desire for upper breast fullness was achieved without appearing surgical on her 5′ 3, 115 lb frame.
